THE CONSCIOUSNESS

As global citizens, JUST want to take part in preserving the environment and we take our environmental impact seriously.

The desire is to enhance the use of sustainable materials in the collection over time and participate even more in keeping our earth healthy and safe.

“Our current goal is to use 30% sustainable materials in the production of our collections - and we are aiming to make that part even bigger and to do better as we go along.” Penille Andersen – Creative Director

THE PRODUCT

In Autumn 18 we started with our Sustainable choice options on the collections, and these options have become a bigger and bigger part of the JUST collections ever since.

We strive to use recycled polyester on all garments in polyester quality, but unfortunately it’s not currently possible with special materials such as sequins, etc.

We are using our 100% organic cotton tote bags with all-over logo artwork as giveaways starting summer 2019. They are very light, so perfect folded up to take along as an extra bag.

Our goal is to use min. 30% sustainable materials in our collections; all garments made from sustainable materials are marked with SUSTAINABLE CHOICE.

Below you can see the kind of materials we use on SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

Organic cotton:

Traditional cotton takes an exorbitant amount of water and chemicals to be produced. Organic cotton is one of the alternatives to this harmful process and still creates a comfortable product. Organic cotton means that the crop is harvested without any toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, or genetically modified seeds.

Recycled polyester:

Recycled polyester uses PET (the chemical used to create polyester) from plastic water bottles and breaks it down into fibres. This process uses nearly half the amount of energy that creating normal polyester does. The recycled fabric keeps plastic out of landfills and can be recycled many times over.

Lyocell:

Lyocell fabric is an amazing eco-friendly fabric that represents a milestone in the development of environmentally sustainable textiles. Lyocell is a natural, manmade fibre. Made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms, Lyocell textiles are created through the use of nanotechnology in a closed-loop process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. Furthermore, it is 100% biodegradable.

Cupro:

Cupro fabric is actually a cotton waste product. It is biodegradable as well as easily recycled, since it is made from 100% plant-based materials. Cupro is produced in a closed-loop process, same as Lyocell. This allows the chemicals used to be extracted afterwards and the waste water can easily be reused. Since it is a by-product of cotton, it dyes easily and therefore requires less dye.

Better cotton/BCI cotton:

Better cotton is not organic, but is an initiative to make cotton production better for the people working in it. The organisation has 4 goals:

  • Reduce the environmental impact of cotton production
  • Improve livelihoods and economic development in cotton-producing areas
  • Improve commitment to and flow of Better Cotton throughout the supply chain
  • Ensure the credibility and sustainability of the Better Cotton Initiative

    WE CARE

At JUST, one of the things we find very important is to help our planet for a brighter future. One of the ways to do so, is to secure and develop more forest, which naturally absorbs Co2. There, JUST have chosen to become a sponsor of the organization “Plant et træ”, which literally means “Plant a Tree”.

When a JUST customer buys a product with a “WE CARE” tag they help support the organization and contribute in having 1.000 trees planted throughout Denmark on an annually scale. The trees will be planted by help of school children with additional aim of securing their own future and consideration/reflection/thought, on this planet.

    THE LABELS AND TAGS

From December 2019, all paper tags attached to a JUST garment will be made out of FSC-certified paper (paper made out of wood that has been sourced in an environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner) and all JUST neck labels + care labels + seals will be made out of recycled polyester.

    THE PACKAGING

When you buy a JUST garment though our website, the foil bag is made out of factory-waste foil and is 80% recycled.

We are constantly striving to teach our suppliers about plastic overuse, so we ask them to save the extra bags when they send samples to the office for approval and correction.

Whenever possible, our products will be shipped in biodegradable bags and we do our utmost to ship by sea when we produce in the Far East.
